Starting up as a freelancer in 2001, I have built numerous web sites for a wide variety of clients, ranging from sole traders and small businesses to larger corporates, non-government organisations and government agencies.

1. Determine your requirements
2. Study the relevant business sector
3. Consider your existing branding (eg. logo, collateral)
4. Work out navigational and usability issues
5. Construct a prototype for comment and approval
6. Design a great site, using all the tools available
7. Test and re-test
8. Make sure that the site works for your business
9. Ask for a reference

• Simple web sites (typically around 6 pages), with minimal customisation requirements, start at £395.
• Larger, more complex web sites, mean more work for me and therefore, a starting price of around £600.
• Big projects, often requiring a content-management system and custom design elements, need to be costed individually and can vary significantly in price, eg. £1000 to £3000 or more.
